THE CANBERRA INSTITUTE

As a specialist company, The Canberra Institute provides business solutions to clients that go beyond ‘access’ or the traditional concept of ‘lobbying.’ The Canberra Institute’s approach is, initially, to gain a comprehensive understanding of a client’s strategic objectives so as to then provide tactical advice that assists with the influence of public policy outcomes in a way that furthers those objectives.

The Canberra Institute interacts with government ministers and their offices, parliamentarians of all political parties, agency heads and officials, and other key people as required. The firm's senior team know the strategies and tactics likely to be effective in dealing with government and how best to refine messages to resonate with particular stakeholders. Allowing clients to effectively progress the government and public policy outcomes they are seeking to achieve.

The Canberra Institute's approach to client management is tailored to meet their specific requirements and may include:

  • Conducting an initial political/policy ‘audit’
  • Undertaking thorough research
  • Formulating an engagement strategy and action plan
  • Developing and distilling ‘the case’
  • Implementing the strategy in collaboration with the client
  • Monitoring political and policy developments
  • Providing ongoing counseling on strategy and tactics
  • Regular client reporting and reviewing

Working with only a relatively small group of clients at any one time, The Canberra Institute ensures that each project receives the maximum attention.
